Our Story

Two guys rooted in the previous era, like centenary vine plants, but definitively turned to the future, two enthusiasts born in the late 70’s, that is Le Cartel essence.

The story of this “in between” generation, born in one century, but who lived their youth during the next one, raised with vinyl records, but young adults during the digital revolution, a generation able to contemplate natural landscapes beauty and vineyards during hours, but fully inscribed in our globalized world.

Fredi Torres

Fredi Torres grew up between the Galician coast and Switzerland, where he spent much of his teenage and young adult life.

After a career as a DJ, his first life as he likes to say, Fredi was litteraly caught by the call of wine and terroir, which led him to this obsession: unveil the great wines’ mystery, of craftsmen’s wines, to capture emotion and share it later through his own vintages.

After he graduated from the prestigious Federal Agricultural Research Station in Changins, Fredi invested himself in several projects in the famous Spanish region of Priorat, at “Sao del Costers” until 2013, and through his eponymous project “Fredi Torres Viticultor ”, But also in other places of Catalonia, with“ Lectores Vini ”, then like a return to sources in Galicia with its companions of “ Silices Viticultores ”.

Le Cartel is his first French Project.

❝  This idea of making wine in Corbières Maritimes began after our meeting with Jean-Rémi, after we decided to start this new adventure which perfectly matches with who we are. We wanted to make personal wines, very close to our personalities, without artifices, and with few interventions ❞

Jean-Rémi Mourad

Jean-Rémi Mourad grew up in Carcassonne, between two Mediterranean cultures, from one bank to the other, from Lebanon of his ancestors to the south of France where he was born.

After studying mathematics and environmental sciences, he specialized in soils and plant organisms, and quickly decided to work around vine and olive tree cultivation as an obvious for this lover of Mediterranean region.

This lead him to obtain an oenologist national diploma at Toulouse engineering School ENSAT, in 2003.

After graduating , he worked 5 years in Corbières, as a technical salesman for Celliers d’Orphée, and then he created is own wine agency “Fontemour” in 2007.

This first part of Jean-Rémi’s professional life lead him to meet many winegrowers, on a mosaic of French and foreign terroirs, but also to satisfy his passion for travel, meeting other cultures, and discoveries, with an idea still in mind: to, one day, produce his own wines.

❝ With Fredi we had the same vision, to produce very personal wines, harvested by hand, vinified with simple and traditional methods, not intrusive, but without forgetting the lessons of our technical background. For our centenary Grenache, for example, fermented in whole bunches, from indigenous yeasts, we chose to vinify in Ovoid vats from Flextank company, which develops materials, in particular for Nasa ❞
